About the Founder - Boat Safe

Todd Hanes – President & CEO

Todd Hanes is a lifelong Ohio educator, former school superintendent, and passionate advocate for youth development and boating safety. He holds a United States Coast Guard (USCG) Merchant Mariner Captain Credential (#3917004). He is a credentialed trainer for numerous education and Public Service organizations. Todd is also an active member of the Professional Captains Association and BoatUS.

Todd’s professional journey spans decades of leadership in both education and nonprofit management. Presenting workshop at National and Ohio Education Seminars, as well as local, state, and national advocacy presentations for foster care and adoption. He is deeply committed to serving underserved and at-risk populations, with a strong belief that every young person, regardless of their background, deserves access to safe and enriching experiences on the water.

His unique blend of public service, maritime experience, and dedication to youth education shapes the mission and vision of Boat Safe!.

Under Todd’s leadership, Boat Safe is committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive, and safety-focused programming. All courses are taught or supervised by certified instructors trained according to U.S. Coast Guard, National Safe Boating Council, and Ohio Department of Natural Resources standards.
